John Smedley are well known for their use of quality knit designs, so much so that they describe themselves as the ‘world’s finest knitwear’- and we can’t argue with that.
For their Autumn/Winter 17 collection titled ‘The Composition of Knit’, John Smedley has pulled out more fine materials, such as merino wool, natural alpaca, silk, wild bouclé and British sheep’s wool. The brand celebrates the pure materials and the journey which they have taken; an appreciation that is reflected in the beautiful designs.
The lineup follows a colour palette of ‘organic’ shades- flare orange, lumsdale and Kielder greens. The colours reflect the outdoors, of which John Smedley believes is the new luxury. They aim to capture the bliss in the ability to escape through their fabrications and philosophy.
John Smedley have been creating British made clothing for 230 years, and the Fashion Week presentation perfectly showcased their ability to modernise a heritage brand. They have successfully created minimal pieces with great impact through the use of colour, cut and fibre. The collection would work well for both staple or stand out pieces, either way, we for sure want to have it all in our wardrobes!
