Last year Ester Kubisz was selected to show her SS17 collection at Ones To Watch, a prestigious platform for emerging designers to showcase their work. Now she returns to the same venue (the Freemasons Hall) for a presentation of her AW17 collection. Building on the themes of deconstructed, masculine work-wear from SS17, Kubisz explores the power of the pin-stripe suit further, but this time using large candy stripes.
Predominantly a menswear brand, Kubisz intends for the styling of her garments to be unisex and uses both male and female models with fresh-faced minimal makeup to present her work. The stage was set for a band and with blues-rock blaring through the speakers – one almost expected the models to pick up the instruments and start jamming. The art direction perfectly matched the effortless, yet edgy style of Kubisz’s suits, which featured open knees and panels of striped fabrics pinned to plain shirts and trousers.
Each model wore black leather trainers, adding to the unisex appeal and laid-back nature of this deconstructed workwear. The models oozed attitude as they posed leant against amps, sat behind the drums and clutching guitars, which made for one of the coolest presentations at Fashion Scout this year. If you turned up to the office dressed by Ester Kubisz you’d be the coolest cat in the building, that’s for certain.
