You might recognise Alien Uncovered from the X Factor, where they took to the stage and made it to the live shows in 2015. Fast forward two years and individuality, courage and ambition seep from the girls. We caught up with the girls to chat about style, dreams, and of course, music. Celebrating their new single “Handle It”, produced by Srno, Alien Uncovered are noted as being ones to watch.

Hey, girls! Why don’t you introduce yourselves and each give our readers a fun fact about you?

Hey! I’m Shae, I love shopping and am a complete shopaholic! I’m Yaz, I’m flexible, and Mexican food is my favourite! Nachos and Fajitas all the way. I’m Natz and am the baby of the group, I’m filled with bundles of energy – probably because I’m obsessed with Coffee. I’m Madison and I’m the biggest TEA fan! So much so I have 12 different types in my cupboard at home. And I’m Temple, Fire is my slogan and twerking is life!

Why ‘Alien Uncovered’?

When we are together people stare at us A LOT haha. We aren’t your stereotypical person especially with our individual dress sense and our bright, colourful hair! We felt a bit like Aliens when people looked at us, so thought ‘what a fitting name!’.

Tell us about the lead up to your entering of The X Factor. What were the reasons you decided to enter and how do you think this affected your careers?

We have always been a really hard working group! We were together for about 18 months prior to auditioning for the X Factor, and spent every day together; either in the studio, rehearsing or really working on who Alien were and perfecting our artistry. The opportunity arose to appear on the show so we took it with both hands. It’s such a great platform to launch, and by this point, we felt the world were ready to see Alien Uncovered. We are thankful for the show as it’s helped us build a strong, supportive fan base and connect with some amazing people within the industry. Right now we are ready to share all our hard work since the show with our fans, old and new!

Describe your image/style and where this rooted from.

A big part of being an Alien and who we are is definitely our image and style! We think we were drawn together because of how we looked and how we dressed. It rooted from us. The way you dress and how you choose to appear is an amazing way to express yourself, and we certainly do just that with fashion, makeup and hairstyles! Just BE YOU. Everyone’s style is a reflection of themselves, and it’s just about how you embrace it and experiment.

Where does your sound come from? What inspirations have led you to where you are today?

We inspire each other when we are in the studio; we just catch a vibe and run with it. Our sound has developed a lot since leaving the show and it’s really matured and diversified! We take a lot of inspiration from Artists who dare to be different and merge both Fashion and Music together. Stars such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kanye West all push boundaries and we have mad respect for that!

We love your cover of The Weeknd’s ‘Starboy’. Who would you dream collaboration be with and what venue would you most love to conquer?

Thank you, we had so much fun recording the video to that track! We would love to collaborate with The Weeknd himself; his voice is just phenomenal! But for us, our dream collaboration would have to be Kanye West. Ye is an absolute genius when it comes to music and he has worked with some incredible artists. The venue we would most love to conquer would have to be Madison Square Garden, no explanation needed…

Talk to us about your single ‘Handle It’. What is the story behind this track?

‘Handle it’ is a real feel-good track! It’s definitely a song for the girls; it’s strong and powerful and we are all for female empowerment. It’s about embracing who you are, exploring your body and being comfortable in your own skin.

Social media is a huge influence for the young generation of today. Do you feel this has worked in your favour?

Yes definitely! Everything is gradually making the transition to being available online; magazines, music, shopping! We think artists are really lucky to be in this position – having instant access to things such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to promote your hard work and the reach you can have is just amazing. It’s really important to have an online presence now. And we have such great feedback from fans all over the world.

What advice would you give to young creatives who want to pursue a career in the industry?

NEVER GIVE UP! It is a tough industry and you will be faced with so many challenges designed to break you, but it is all just a test. You will get your break with persistent hard work – and just believe in yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, right? And to be successful and have longevity in this industry you have to be patient and determined. Hard work does pay off!

Finally, give us the low down on your upcoming EP. What can we expect and when can we expect to get our hands on it?

Our EP will be arriving later on in the year. You can expect a selection of tracks that we hope will inspire and empower our fans! We can’t give too much away, but we can assure you it will be worth the wait!
