Helena Lester-Card, otherwise known as Helibells, is the 25 year old owner of the colourful vintage Sassy World and one of the four beautifully eccentric girls behind Confetti Crowd; a group of 20-something ambitious, independent girls aiming to inspire and empower. Helibells would never be caught dead in black, and we spoke bold prints, 80s fashion and all things sassy.
WHAT DOES BEING PART OF THE CONFETTI CROWD MEAN TO YOU?
Friendship, empowerment and individuality.
WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND CONFETTI CROWD, HOW DO YOU WORK TOGETHER AND WHAT IS THE MISSION?
I think it’s the fact we all have such a special bond, it really drives Confetti Crowd forward. We’re like sisters! We empower and motivate one and other to be more creative and to succeed in all our different areas. The mission is to encourage others to support each other, support fellow girl bosses, end girl hate and promote self love.
CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT SASSY WORLD? WHAT IS THE DREAM?
Sassy World originated from my final major project of my Fashion Media & Promotion degree nearly 3 years ago. I started it because I wanted to create the colourful shop of my dreams, selling vintage clothes that no one else had. I wanted to encourage others to dress however they want whilst also shopping more sustainably. The dream is to expand into one big outlet for similar independent designers and brands, as well as designing my own merchandise, clothing and accessories.
BESIDES COLOURFUL AND PLAYFUL, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
IN YOUR EYES, WHY ISN’T THERE ENOUGH UNIQUE CLOTHES IN THE UK, WHAT IS IT THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR?
I think there’s definitely more around now than there was a few years ago, but I’m just looking for stuff that you can’t find on the high street. Involving lots of colours and prints of course!
WHAT INSPIRES YOU IN TERMS OF FASHION AND COLOUR?
Different eras to be honest, the 80s was wildly colourful and fun! But I take most of my fashion inspiration from music, art and TV from the 70s and 90s.
HOW DO YOU WANT TO EMPOWER FEMALES, WHAT CONFIDENCE ARE YOU TRYING TO SHARE?
I want to encourage girls to feel comfortable in their own skin and how they dress. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks except you! All of use need to learn to love ourselves unconditionally and I think there’s lots of amazing females in the media now who have inspired my to make a start, and I’d love to pass that confidence on!
