Phoebe English’s Spring Summer 2018 collection showed us a playful and gentle shade to London Fashion Week Men’s. Bright and early on the first day of Men’s Fashion Week, English’s innocent yet utilitarian collection showed the models playing and constructing shapes with clay at the British Fashion Council Presentation Space and then displaying their creations behind them.
The workable aspect was a continuous theme for her collection. The loose fitted blue and white pinstriped coordinates, trouser and sailor-esque sweater top. English opted for a functional theme which was shown in the relaxed silhouettes and comfortable fabrics in poplin and linen canvas. The collection also had an androgynous feel, from the pale blue collarless trench coat and dark royal blue and black hooded bomber jacket with small rope fastenings. Neutral colours ran through, oversized collarless cream sweatshirts matched with dark olive utility shorts, tall rolled-down cream socks and high-top trainer pumps. The statement accessory was the versatile sack bag in emerald green, cream and black, which was shown as a backpack but also a shoulder bag.
