Toga Archives Spring/Summer 18 had three key words this season – “Holes, Suits, Crumpled”. As the brand’s trademark, Toga’s new collection shows off beautiful pieces created in various fabrics and textures. The brand is distinguished by how complex the fabric research is and its eye for details and a mix of styling.
The new collection is definitely something to look forward to, with a smart but chick and elegant vibe. Blazers, two pieced suits, dresses, and skirts were all on the runway, being showcased in an old London church. Dark blues, whites, and blacks seemed to be the main theme, with occasional red, green, stripes and different patterns. As one of the trademark features, the textures of the clothing was played with, crumpled fabric, see-through coloured plastic, fine mesh, and pearl embroidery was all seen in the new collection. As one of the keywords suggested, holes were also implemented in dresses and trousers with a pearled embroidery lining.
Yasuko Furuta, the designer and founder of TOGA, graduated from ESMOD in Paris and founded TOGA in 1997 in Tokyo. She designs for “complex women who can only live in chaos”, which also reflects in her clothes.
