Hailing from South East London, BLESSED are Lauren and Georgia Morgan; the exciting new London duo currently causing a storm on the music scene. They continue to unleash their addictive, one-of-a-kind fusion of R&B, dancehall, electronic and pop influenced sounds.

Having just released their brand new track, ‘Howlin’, they have once again demonstrated their flair for crafting hypnotic sonics with killer melodies and sharp lyricism. The dance floor ready celebration of irresistible animal attraction is further brought to life with the striking must-see visual, directed by rising UK director, Mo Swlaeh.

Earlier this year, the duo released their debut track, the soulful and haunting ‘Venom’. This track swiftly caught the attention of us here at Noctis so we caught up with the sisters for a quick interview.

BLESSED MAY BE A NEW DISCOVERY FOR SOME OF OUR READERS, SO COULD YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELVES AND YOUR SOUND?

Georgia: We are two sisters from South East London. Our sound is fun, energetic pop with a very distinctive fresh London sound.

YOU HAVE JUST SIGNED TO ISLAND RECORDS, CAN YOU TELL US MORE ABOUT HOW THIS HAPPENED?

Lauren: We wrote a song called ‘Venom’ and released it this May on our Soundcloud. Island then reached out to us within a week and we went down to show them a collection of other songs we had written. There was so much enthusiasm they just got us straight away and wanted to get involved.

G: It feels so great knowing we have an amazing team that really get us as artists and have shared the same vision for Blessed from the start.

YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED HUGE ACCLAIM FROM THE LIKES OF I-D, CLASH AND SBTV. HOW DOES IT FEEL TO GET SUCH RECOGNITION?

G: It can feel super surreal sometimes seeing our name on blogs and in magazines. Sometimes we find it hard to process everything because it’s all so exciting.

L: We are actually just so grateful for everyone’s support, and it feels crazy to be receiving so much love so early on.

BEING SISTERS, DO YOU EVER HAVE ANY FALLINGS OUT OVER THE MUSIC OR IS IT ALL KEPT SEPARATE?

L: Ugh all the time! It’s only natural because we are sisters and best friends who spend all our time together and work together 24/7. But we definitely have such a healthy relationship, we never sit on any problems and communication is everything to us.

G: 100 percent. And mostly when it comes to music we both value each other’s contribution so much that there’s always a great balance when we’re creating music. Our arguments are more over stolen clothes!

YOU HAVE BECOME RENOWNED FOR SOME OF YOUR EARLY COVERS. HOW DID YOU DECIDE WHICH TRACKS TO WORK ON?

L: Usually we look at what’s poppin’, or what we think may potentially be the next hit.

G: But sometimes if there’s a song we just love we will cover it regardless. We love any sassy song or a good little mashup.

WHAT IS THE WRITING PROCESS LIKE FOR BLESSED?

L: Gee taught herself to play the guitar when she was younger, so sometimes we will just vibe together that way.

Gee: Most of the time we freestyle loads of different ideas over beats and then choose the melodies we like and lyric them. This really allows us to be free, as there’s no pressure to write a song start to finish, but rather to piece our favourite parts together!

WHAT’S NEXT FOR BLESSED?

G: We are seriously looking forward to doing live shows, developing our sound and creating songs we love to keep sharing with other people.

L: I can’t wait for us to continue building Blessed until we are a well known group as well as a brand, that people from all over the world know.
