Generating a well deserved buzz for his neo-soul sound, Sam Fischer blends pop sensibilities with a nod towards R&B. His new single ‘This City’ premieres here today, ahead of the release of his debut EP, ‘Not A Hobby’, due for release later this week.
Growing up in the Northern suburbs of Sydney, Sam began writing music at the age of 12; he quickly became formally trained in both the violin and saxophone. Following a move to the US, he graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2014 and dove head-first into the music scene as a vocalist for HOLYCHILD. A prolific songwriter, his talents have led him to co-write for the likes of DJ Mustard, Clean Bandit, Sabrina Claudio, and Jennifer Hudson.
There’s a familiarity to ‘This City’, but there’s also still a sense of newness and longing. Fischer describes the track as his diary entry, it’s how he feels about LA.
Speaking about the track he said, “I love this place and absolutely hate it all at the same time. The day I wrote this song I was having a particularly rough day. I had just been to one of the weirdest, smokiest, minimalist, ultraviolet light lit album release parties the night before and straight just didn’t get it. I was a little disillusioned. I think the song is something everyone can relate to, especially after moving to a new city or home. Or just going through change in general, but in particular for me, to somewhere as unforgiving and often times superficial as LA can be. I hope this song helps”.
