Nineteen. Indie Pop. North London. What more do you need to be deemed as one of London’s hottest emerging talents? In the case of Natalie Shay, not much.
A BRIT school graduate, Natalie Shay is a classically trained guitarist, ready to launch herself into the forefront of the industry. From the age of five, her talent was known and she credits her time at the prestigious BRIT school for encouraging her independence. “It allows you to develop creatively”, she said. “But also socially, so that you are prepared for the world once you graduate”.
Fusing live instrumentation with indie pop sensibilities, Natalie Shay aims to offer something flawless and dynamic. Produced by Pete Dowsett, and inspired by the work of Sundara Karma, her sound is a beautiful blend of timeless genres. The result is a listening experience that is as authentic as her acclaimed live sound; “It was important to me to have as many live instruments as possible on the recording. It creates the right vibe and sound”, she said.
Leading single ‘This Feeling’ is out today and focusses on the excitement of young love. However, it’s more so about the passionate desire you can have for someone. There is a strong sense of emotion throughout the track and it creates something honest and heartfelt. It’s the kind of track that, once again, resonate with listeners from all different walks of life.
Featuring gritty melodic guitars, punchy drum beats and an infectious anthemic chorus, Shay has established a sound beyond her years. She is driven by the desire to inspire other young women in the arts, and helping them to flourish with confidence. Natalie Shay is set for a promising 2018.
