“Good beats and positive vibes stimulate my creativity.”
Born in Nigeria and of Lebanese descent, we predict that female grime artist Laughta is set to take over the UK. Following on her charting EP last year My Terms & Conditions produced by The Heavytrackerz (Stormzy, Ghetts, Lethal Bizzle). We are loving Keeping it Grimey, produced by Jammin’ and featuring fellow emerging emcee Young Spray.
How would you describe your style and sound?
I’ve grown up in London, but I definitely think I’ve got worldwide influences in my music due to my cultural background being Lebanese but also being born in Nigeria. I love and appreciate all different styles of music, and in my music, you’ll hear high energy, skippy & bouncy flows, and catchy melodies.
Which artists influence you?
Artists like Missy Elliot, Papoose, So Solid Crew, Skepta, Wiley is some of the main reasons I started doing music and all for different reasons. I wanted to have a unique and bold style set like Missy Elliot and make bangers like her but I also loved how skippy Ludacris was with his flows. On my way to school, I would listen to the So Solid album because I loved the energy and songs and I could relate to their music. As for now good beats and positive vibes stimulate my creativity.
Tell us more about ‘Keeping it Grimey’ and ‘Low Low’ and why you decided on these to be your next singles?
Both singles are available on Spotify and iTunes and are both taken from my upcoming mixtape, Who’s Laughing Now. Keeping it Grimey features one of my favourite rappers Young Spray and is produced by Collarge. It is an energetic track that will get you bopping hard. Low Low is a real vibesy song which features and is produced by the talented Karmah Cruz, it’s about not putting your relationship on blast on social media and is one to whine up to on the dance floor. I’m shooting the video for it soon and I can’t wait to drop some moves in that!
What should we expect from you for the rest of 2018?
I have my 1st headline show taking place Monday 25th June at Camden Assembly which I’ve been looking forward to and planning for a while. I will be releasing more singles and music videos in preparation for the release of my upcoming mixtape ‘Who’s Laughing Now’ and I will be touring different cities across the UK to perform so keep posted on my Instagram @laughta1 for dates.
