Wiley, Noisia, Shy FX & Dynamite MC, AJ Tracey, Stefflon Don…who knew September would sound this good? We did! These are just a few of the names on board for Outlook Festival 2018, the ultimate 4 day party to round off the summer.
Outlook unites thousands of bass-obsessives in it’s fortress home for 380 epic hours honouring soundsystem culture, and the genres that have evolved from its early roots – from DnB and jungle to dub and reggae, it’s all covered as part of the agenda. With less than three months to go, Outlook drop the day to day line-ups and stage splits, plus news on takeover crews who’ll be holding it down at Fort Punta Christo.
With 6 split stages announced so far hosted by legends DMZ, Andy C, Appelsap, David Rodigan’s Ram Jam, Deep Medi, Swamp 81, Subdub, V Recordings, Metalheadz and so many more on board, we can’t wait to touch down in Croatia and party hard. Read on to find out what’s in store…
Home to some of Outlook Festival’s standout sets (think Stormzy’s infamous thunderstorm in 2016) The Clearing is filled with the heaviest hitting live acts. Kicking off on Thursday is firm festival favourite David Rodigan with his ‘Ram Jam’ rave, featuring the man himself, joined by Iration Steppas, Shy FX and Dynamite MC, Miss Red, Johnny Osbourne and Soul Stereo and friends. Moving to Friday, it’s another heavy bill pulling together some of the UK’s finest MC’s and crews – Stefflon Don, Nadia Rose, MIST, Levelz, plus DJ Hype and The Heatwave. Saturday sees Andy C recruit a bunch of DnB royalty for an Andy C Presents showcase; Noisia, Randall and Spectrasoul. MC’s come in the form of 2Shy, GQ and Tonn Piper. Ending proceedings on a high, Outlook invite Amsterdam’s revered Appelsap Fresh Music Festival to host. Known as OG authorities on street culture, for over 20 years Appelsap have developed the cities hip-hop, rap, grime and bass movement and the artists within. For this collab, they present Kojey Radical, Ocean Wisdom, JHus, AJ Tracey, Lady Leshuur, Jaykae and Dub Phizix and Strategy – a super solid bill to end Outlook ‘18.
Undoubtedly a firm fave of the Outlook arenas, The Moat stage is 70 foot deep – the old moat of Fort Punta Christo. Friday it’s an all star cast through bass, techno and left leaning oddities from Martha, Tash LC, Madam X, DJ Lag, Silas and Snare, Barely Legal and more. A first for Outlook, Saturday sees garage don Slimzee bring his Slimzos Recordings crew to the fort, here find the man himself, Trends and Boylan, Grandmixxer, Spooky, YGG and more exploring the parameters of garage and grime. Sunday is full of more garage greatness with ‘For The Love Of Garage’ – Oneman, Zed Bias, MJ Cole and more all rep here. More to come too… eyes peeled.
From the early afternoon to sunfall, Outlook’s Beach stage is an ideal warm up for the fortress madness, enjoy blissed-out beats, celestial jazz, hip-hop, soul, reggae, RnB and DnB flavours next to the Adriatic ocean. Opening on Thursday afternoon are some of the UK’s finest soulful stars – Yazmin Lacey, Poppy Ajudha, Nubya Garcia and breakthrough crew, Ezra Collective. Heading into the evening, long-term DnB imprint V Recordings takeover with liquid vibes from Bryan Gee, DJ Marky, Patife and more. Eclectic soul, chilled out hip-hop and RnB is what Friday is all about, with S4U, INKA, Peanut Butter Wolf, Flohio and more, plus Manchester wild boys LEVELZ to close. On to the weekend, Saturday is all dub and reggae from Johnny Clarke and The Dub Asante Band, Iseo and Dodo Sound, Jamie Rodigan, Brian Holidays and plenty more. Last but not least, Sunday rounds off with Medi On The Beach – dubstep and bass from A/T/O/S, Commodo, Sicaria Sound, Egoless and Silkie.
11 years deep in the game, Outlook Festival’s dedication still shines through. Approaching the programming with passion, knowledge and heart, Outlook has cemented it’s place as one of the leading festival promoters worldwide. Although hosting thousands each year, Outlook still runs with a family feel, with artists and party people coming back, year-on-year, to experience and discover new music on world class, bespoke sound systems. From next-level settings and hedonistic boat parties to the Opening Concert (this year with David Rodigan, Bonobo, Wiley, Children of Zeus) and Zerostrasse tunnel parties (Levelz and friends + more TBA), the team have never shied away from taking things to the next level, whilst staying firmly grounded to their roots.
