Artist, illustrator and experimental hip-hop artist Ash Shakur debuts his latest musical offering with us today, the blissed out summery new single ‘Underwater Love’. Taking us on a trip to the seaside and armed with a pocket full of sandy metaphors, Ash has dropped this nostalgia-inducing cut perfectly in time for summer.

The south Londoner is known for blending thought provoking lyrics and uplifting storytelling, something which his imagery also boasts.. check out some of his illustrations here! Music-wise his unorthodox style has won over fans across the globe already but from first listen ‘Underwater Love’ is maybe his best yet. It has shades of old school boom bap with smooth melodies, jazz instrumentation and a soul/jazz inspired beat from producer Donato. Ash’s playful approach to his art also stretches to the lyrics as he explains:

“This record is about an interest in someone you really really dig. It takes me back to my youth when there was a girl I used to like but wouldn’t say, everybody knew it but her. I used a lot of sea references as a metaphor to tell this narrative. I want you to have fun with this record and to feel like you’re on holiday on the beach somewhere… And if you dig someone, then let them know so it’ surfaces!”

His last single ‘Lead The Way’ was released through French label Kitsuné and more recently Ash collab’d with Berlin producer Bluestaeb on ‘All Smooth’ which was released on Jakarta Records. Previous solo tracks ‘Never Alone’, ‘Nokia’ and ‘Shine’ all cemented Ash as a serious one to watch with taste-makers across the board backing his music.  He is also the co-founder of Art Life Central, a collective that expresses creativity and freedom through music and fashion. He aims to inspire people through his vibrant visuals and incorporates this art direction across all of his musical content.
