Following on her recent debut EP, ‘No That Special’, 19-year-old Lily Moore is back with the video for her new single, the soulful ‘I Will Never Be.’
Drawing inspiration from both classic singers such as Etta James, and artists from the genre’s more modern iteration such as Liane Le Havas, the song is a showcase for Lily’s powerhouse voice. Starting off with a laid-back organ riff and breakbeat, the song slowly builds to a crescendo with the vocal taking the song from intimate confession to high drama.
“I wrote ‘I Will Never Be’ about knowing you will never be good enough for someone no matter how hard you try” – Lily
The video sees Lily continuing the DIY path she has taken with the rest of her work, eschewing a big production to focus on what she feels is important, her friends and her home. the cast are made up of the same close-nit group that comprised the audience in her previous video ‘17’, people she has known for years and shared loves and loses with, the London setting reflecting her closeness to the city she was born in (she now lives in Brighton).
Lily’s ability to capture the everyday frustrations of life in her music has seen her develop an ever-growing fanbase and ‘I Will Never Be’, the first track from her forthcoming 2nd EP, will only see it grow more.
