“Everybody Wants to be Ghetto But Nobody Wants to be Poor”
– By Sophie Jones & Caleb Dobie
The concept of the story is about Caleb’s life growing up in Dulwich. Having entered the fashion industry coming from a working class background was a culture shock and required a lot of adjustment. Having seen how the industry and trends have changed towards the fetishisation of working class culture – Caleb couldn’t help but feel slightly jarred by it. Which bred the quote “everybody wants to be ghetto but nobody wants to be poor” which speaks for itself. The story explores the realities of growing up in Dulwich and what its like to grow up on a British estate, this story arouses nostalgia or for some highlights the actuality of working class life. The story will showcase 3 versions of Caleb. A 10 year old, 15 year old and Caleb. The images explore the relationship between his older self and his younger self and how he has grown into the man he is today. Proud to be British and proud to be working class.
