Influences from Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire and many more others, Singer-songwriter Josh Vine talks with us about his single Tired and what he’s up to in the future.
What’s the story behind ‘Tired’?
Tired is about being scared of creating nothing worth while in your life but also coming to terms with just enjoying being and learning to be at peace with who you are and what you do. It’s important to try and make a difference in your own way but sometimes give yourself a break.
Are we looking at a new album or EP in the future?
There’s a few singles lined up and I think potentially an E.P at some point later next year.
How long have you been writing music?
Since I was about 14, but I’ve only really started to put proper time in to it in the past 5 years.
What is your song writing process like?
My songwriting process is pretty all over the place to be honest. I just pick up the guitar when I feel like and see what comes out. Sometimes utter rubbish sometimes I think alright this could be worth working on and I’ll put time into it.
What do you prefer doing the most, performing live or recording music?
I prefer playing live to recording, although both have aspects that I like. Recording is great fun but can be stressful and a lot of hard work especially because I made the decision to produce myself so it’s been a steep learning curve for me.
Are you collaborating with anyone at the moment, if not would this be something you’d be up for doing?
I’m not collaborating with anyone at the moment but I’m always up for outside input and perhaps that’s something I’m missing in my project. It’s always wise to be open minded.
Who did you look up to musically?
For the past year I’ve been obsessed with The National so I’ve gotta mention those guys but older influences and people I look up to are Paul Weller, Thom Yorke, Kitchens of Distinction, Villagers, Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, the list is endless.
What can we expect from you in the future, any new projects?
No new projects but lot’s more music for Josh Vine, the next single is out late October!
