Eighteen-year-old BRYN was born and bred in South London and is set to be a commanding force as an exciting versatile artist in the making. After amassing almost 100,000 followers on her Instagram in under a year with fiery vocal mashups and millions of views on her live rapping and singing performances, she kick-started her career with the release of her slick, trap-infused debut ‘Pull Up’.
In addition to this release, summer 2018 saw BYRN undertake a run of appearances including a performance on the BBC 1Xtra stage at the Reading and Leeds Festivals, where she shared the stage with big names like AJ Tracey and Lady Leshurr.
What got you started on rapping, singing and songwriting, what inspired you?
It was the feeling I got from listening to music and also being blessed with a talent. I was inspired by my family, they are very creative
What’s the story behind ‘Pull Up’?
I first made ‘Pull Up’ after performing at one of my friend’s headline shows. From the energy I had when I left from the show, I went to the studio and made ‘Pull Up’.
You had tonnes of hits on a few of your mash-ups in the past, who would your dream mash up be with?
I would love to do a mashup with Cardi B and Snoop Dogg
Are you collaborating with anyone at the moment?
Yeah, I have a UK Rapper on a song of mine that will be released in September. It’s called ‘Bailiffs’
What’s your song-writing process like? What comes first, the words or the beat?
It depends. In the studio the beat comes first but when I’m at home I just put a YouTube beat on and write.
Who are your style inspirations?
A$AP Rocky, Billie Eilish and Travis Scott
You performed at Reading and Leeds on BBC’s 1Xtra, how was that experience?
It was crazy! The adrenaline was mad, the crowd made a massive mosh pit, it was just so sick
Is there anything we should be looking forward to in the future from you?
Everything! A headline show, an album, and more live shows.
