SW4 Festival 2018

So I experienced my first ever ‘real’ festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend at South London’s SW4 for their 15th anniversary. The 2-day celebration of the best electronic, drum & bass, rap, grime and pop was nothing short of an amazing experience and I must say- the mud didn’t take my fun away! Can’t say the same for my converses.

If you ever want to find me at next year’s event, come to VIP. That is, IF you want to witness the festival in ultimate boujie mode. Who would have thought that a carpeted marquee with linen covered sofa beds, scented toilets and private bar had its place in the middle of Clapham Common! The exclusive wristbands definitely came in handy to beat the menacing crowds outside the bars and loos and extremely handy for finding a quiet spot for applying your festival glitter and henna. Less queues equal more time to drink and enjoy!

The Saturday focussed on celebrating SW4’s signature house and techno sounds. The crowds watched headliner Marshmello’s electrifying performance with kaleidoscopic vision through 3D glasses making it an unforgettable expeirnece. Chart toppers such as MK, Jax Jones and Example all made an appearance in the chill-out area before their sets, sharing the ins and outs of current and future projects during interviews. The day actually introduced me to my new favourite DJs- Sigma. The band’s contagious energy and catchy sound waves had the crowd buzzing uncontrollably. Swedish Duo Galantis headlined the indoor mainstage and multi-talented Idris Elba even made an appearance in between promoting his new film- Yardie.

My personal Sunday highlight was legend Dizzee Rascal as he performed new work, ‘Don’t Gas Me’ and ‘Patterned Vibez’. Craig David serenaded the crowd with his classic 90’s hits, Steffllon Don twerked throughout her entire set and Kojo Funds and Lethal Bizzle kept the Capital Xtra stage bouncing throughout their robust performances. Bugzy Malone rocked up fashionably in a pair of mudsavers to protect his fresh white trainers- the best festival footwear I had encountered and will definitely be taking note of for 2019!
