i-am-chen is the fashion brand by Zhi Chen, who actually dropped out of university as an engineering student to pursue her dream as a fashion designer. Chen was the winner of the SS19 merit award. She was selected from hundreds of applicants by a judging panel. This season Chen has taken inspiration from one of her favourite films. Her AW18 received the Fashion Scout One’s To Watch Award, alongside other big awards, Chen is also a Finalist on the 2018/2019 International Woolmark Prize.
Chen is known for her vibrant colours, youthful style and knitwear. You could definitely see that in this collection, one of my favourite designs was the red knitted dress, it had a blue belt and green straps. The dress was paired with some slip on heel, which was a great choice.
Chen’s vibrant colourful aesthetic was bought out in this show. The models were all wearing bright colours, which is Chen’s style. Although she did have some pastel colours along the vibrant ones. Chen’s designs are playful and they’re always striving to bring fun into her collections. The show was beautiful, the colours selected made an impact on the collection.
Another piece which I think was incredible was a midi dress, the top of the dress had yellow and orange which is beautiful mix of colours, the skirt part of the dress was red. The models didn’t need any makeup as the outfits were already eye catching.
The show wasn’t only great, but Chen also gave us a little gift. A pink and grey scarf, which is beautiful.
