Elkka “Full Circle”

Smudging the boundaries between eras and styles, Elkka’s free-wheeling dance tracks float between club, left-field pop and earthy sounds. The infectious new four-track EP, ‘Full Circle’, looks set to further solidify her status as an artist changing the shape of dance music in 2018. Opening with the atmospheric and spacious rhythmic house of ‘2000 and f_cked’, the EP moves through hypnotic club patterns and sun-soaked percussive palette’s for ‘We’re Here’ and ‘One’, whilst ‘Talkin’ foregrounds high-octane tribal rhythms and spliced up vocal samples. The new EP follows her last single ‘Stay’, in which she reworked one of her previous tracks by lending it a new found percussive energy. The single was championed at radio by Radio 1’s Jamz Supernova, BBC 1xtra, BBC Asian Network’s Nabihah Iqbal, RINSE and Reprezent Radio, whilst the video for ‘Stay’, which was inspired by Brazilian music and dance culture and produced by Girls In Film, featured a mesmerising squad of female dancers of all ages and backgrounds from The London Samba Workshop.

‘Full Circle’ was informed by Elkka’s own deeper understanding of who she is as an artist, producer and person, claiming “with this body of work I allowed myself for the first time to compose a stream of consciousness, without limitations or constraints. It was literally like I had allowed my mind to travel into parallel universes and spaces. This culminated into this 2 sided ep – the day side and night side. Each piece of music representing different moments in time, from waking up to falling asleep and everything in between, travelling full circle.” Elkka founded the femme culture label and collective in 2016 in response to the lack of support for womxn DJs, producer and artists, later teaming up with fellow DJ and creative Ludo who she now co-runs the platform with. Since then, the progressively minded collective have been swiftly gaining recognition with their boundary-free ethos that champions women, women-identifying artists and the LGBTQ+ community whilst pushing forward-thinking music through their carefully curated club nights and events.
