Award winners MiCLowry have recently released their newest single “Tesla”featuring the distinctive soulful harmonies central to their growth in popularity, atop an afro swing production in collaboration with producer Diztortion (Lethal Bizzle, MNEK, Chip, Tinie Tempah) presenting a new sound for the group. Having toured with Justin Bieber and hitting over 90 million streams across all platforms – “Tesla” has seen the boys return with a bang ahead of their 8-date European tour – receiving support from the likes of Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 1, Capital Xtra, Clash Magazine and GRM Daily

How did you start out as a group?

We all attended the same singing workshop at a local youth arts organisation called Positive Impact. Started singing together there then decided to form the group.

What’s the story behind the band name?

It comes from Will Smith’s character Mike Lowery in the movie Bad Boyz. It’s an iconic 90s movie; seeing as we’re all 90s babies & we’re heavily inspired by the RnB music from that decade it seemed fitting.

How would you describe your sound?

Commercial RnB with a strong ’90s influence.

What’s your go-to party track?

Luther Vandross – “Never Too Much”. Doesn’t matter whether you’re out on the town or at a family party with your nan, always gets the party going.

Out of the five of you, who would you say gets the most love from fans?

D, he’s the ladies man.

Your first single, “Oh Lord” saw you sample ’80s musician Phil Collins – who’s your favourite throwback artist?

Probably Stevie Wonder.

What’s the story behind latest single “Tesla”?

We had the session at Diztortion’s studio in West London. We were only in town for the one night so we wrote the song about linking a girl while we were down there basically.

What was it like working with producer Diztortion?

He is a badman producer. Always brings good energy and vibes to the session as well.

Who would you like to collab with in future?

Would love to do a little something with Ella Mai. We both like each other’s music, it’s just hard to collab cos she’s never in the UK to do a session!

What are your aspirations as a group? Where do you see yourselves in five years?

Touring the world and spreading our music to as many people as possible.

What are your forthcoming musical projects?

Got bare new music coming. Gonna drop at least a good 5 singles next year so watch this space

“Tesla” is out now.
