There’s a new fashion collaboration on the block from Brazilian label, Melissa, and iconic Italian sportswear brand, Fila.
Never ones to do things by half, Covent Garden’s Galeria Melissa have taken a playful approach preview on 14 March to unveil the new Melissa x Fila collection which aims to “imagine the future inspired by the past of both labels”, according to a statement by Melissa.
The limited edition collection unites the signatures of both FILA and Melissa teaming plastic sneakers, slides, sandals, bum bags and a raincoat in Fila’s signature colour palette (white, red and navy.)
Melissa is just the latest in a series of brands teaming up with the Italian label founded in 1911, as Fila goes through a resurgence in popularity thanks to the athleisure and 1990 trends. Last year Fendi launched an entire collection inspired by the compatriot label, appropriating a joint logo designed by visual artist Hey Reilly.
The collection promises to be more than just a one hit wonder. How? By staggering the release of key pieces. This month statement pieces are available in Melissa’s stores for a steal, anywhere between £30-£80. Melissa’s flagship and gallery in London is even holding an exhibition to celebrate the launch.
If you find yourself in Covent Garden, make sure to pop by, if only to release your inner child by playing in the giant foam pit of lettered cubes bearing both Fila’s and Melissa’s logos.
Windows also display a video by visual artist Natalia Stuyk, especially commissioned for the launch.
