One can only imagine the pressure that comes from debuting your first international catwalk show at London Fashion Week Men’s, pressure only magnified by the public endorsement of fashion powerhouse, GQ.
The theme of 8on8’s pioneering collection at LFWM20 was SELF-LIBERATION a title that instantly embodies the evolution and expression of China’s booming fashion culture. GQ China have a stellar reputation of championing native talent, most recently Xander Zhou in 2018. This year, founder and designer of 8ON8, Li Gong, was given free reign to combine his mature energy with innovative street style the results of which appeared as a collection of modern tailoring silhouettes with structured suits and long dress in neutral shades and pastels. Unique chain mail pieces dominated the runway, with one directive: break the chain, let go of one’s self.
As with much of the world, music was the crowning glory of the day. The show was set to an eclectic mix of contemporary electronic and ‘80s, with the final walk to this, Li Gong’s triumphant arrival on London Fashion Week line up, anthem I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters.
