Designer Mark Fast opened London Fashion Week on Friday morning (13/09), his spring/summer 2020 show is a colourful neon knitwear focus collection was inspired by and paying tribute to the beauty, colours and creations of the Amazon.
Designer Mark Fast initially was to celebrate the beautiful colour, environment and atmosphere of the Amazon, like a “party in the jungle”. But since the devastating news of the Amazon fires broke all this beauty he was researching and being inspired has meant the collection has changed from celebration to a tribute to the greatest Amazon. Other than Amazon, the collection was also inspired by 80s club wear and designer’s muses CHLOE SEVIGNY AND MADONNA.
The show began with a knitted green top and skirt styles with a pink see-through shirt, big earrings and snake-patterned heels, an eye catching and sexy look ready for a big night out. The first look immediately set the colour tone and styling vibe of the collection, 80s clubwear inspired garments in modern designs, yarn fringed lace dresses and knitted cycling shorts in various vibrant colours (light neon pink, blue, green, yellow, orange) throughout the show, palettes undoubtedly inspired by the Amazon; the macaws, birds of paradise, and different species that live there.
The collection was a great success, great inspiration and mature craftsmanship, garments are nicely knitted and printed, great colourful combination of colour in each outfit, styling was cohesive throughout the collection. And I would like to shout out to the casting director for the show, the models were equally diverse, you can see different ethnicities, genders and sizes on the runway, it’s the beginning of 2020, I think all runway show should be like Mark Fast’s, be more equal, more diverse.
